Take the time…to live and love

Her hair was up in a pony tail,
Her favourite dress tied with a bow.
Today was Daddy’s Day at school,
And she couldn’t wait to go.

But her mummy tried to tell her,
That she probably should stay home.
Why the kids might not understand,
If she went to school alone.

But she was not afraid;
She knew just what to say.
What to tell her classmates
Of why he wasn’t there today.

But still her mother worried,
For her to face this day alone.
And that was why once again,
She tried to keep her daughter home.

But the little girl went to school
Eager to tell them all.
About a dad she never sees
A dad who never calls.

There were daddies along the wall in back,
For everyone to meet.
Children squirming impatiently,
Anxious in their seats

One by one the teacher called
A student from the class.
To introduce their daddy,
As seconds slowly passed.

At last the teacher called her name,
Every child turned to stare.
Each of them was searching,
A man who wasn’t there.

‘Where’s her daddy at?’
She heard a boy call out.
‘She probably doesn’t have one,’
Another student dared to shout.

And from somewhere near the back,
She heard a daddy say,
‘Looks like another deadbeat dad,
Too busy to waste his day.’

The words did not offend her,
As she smiled up at her Mum.
And looked back at her teacher,
Who told her to go on.

And with hands behind her back,
Slowly she began to speak..
And out from the mouth of a child,
Came words incredibly unique.

‘My Daddy couldn’t be here,
Because he lives so far away.
But I know he wishes he could be,
Since this is such a special day.

And though you cannot meet him,
I wanted you to know.
All about my daddy,
And how much he loves me so.

He loved to tell me stories
He taught me to ride my bike..
He surprised me with pink roses,
And taught me to fly a kite.

We used to share fudge sundaes,
And ice cream in a cone.
And though you cannot see him.
I’m not standing here alone.

‘Cause my daddy’s always with me,
Even though we are apart
I know because he told me,
He’ll forever be in my heart’

With that, her little hand reached up,
And lay across her chest.
Feeling her own heartbeat,
Beneath her favorite dress.

And from somewhere here in the crowd of dads,
Her mother stood in tears.
Proudly watching her daughter,
Who was wise beyond her years.

For she stood up for the love
Of a man not in her life.
Doing what was best for her,
Doing what was right.

And when she dropped her hand back down,
Staring straight into the crowd.
She finished with a voice so soft,
But its message clear and loud.

‘I love my daddy very much,
he’s my shining star.
And if he could, he’d be here,
But heaven’s just too far.

You see, he was an Aussie soldier
And died, just this, past year
When a roadside bomb hit his convoy
And taught, Australians to fear.

But sometimes when I close my eyes,
it’s like he never went away.’
And then she closed her eyes,
And saw him there that day.

And to her mothers amazement,
She witnessed with surprise.
A room full of daddies and children,
All starting to close their eyes.

Who knows what they saw before them,
Who knows what they felt inside.
Perhaps for merely a second,
They saw him at her side.

‘I know you’re with me Daddy,’
To the silence she called out.
And what happened next made believers,
Of those once filled with doubt.

Not one in that room could explain it,
For each of their eyes had been closed.
But there on the desk beside her,
Was a fragrant long-stemmed rose.

And a child was blessed, if only for a moment,
By the love of her shining star.
And given the gift of believing,
That heaven is never too far.

Send this to the people you’ll never forget and
Remember to send it also to the person that sent It to you. It’s a short message to let them know that you’ll never forget them.

If you don’t send it to anyone, it means you’re
in a hurry and that you’ve forgotten your friends.

Take the time…to live and love.
Until eternity. God bless!

There once was a Slug called Reilly

There once was a slug called Reilly,
Who was incredibly slimy,
He thought he was smart,
Going out in the dark,
Until he fell down in a hole, did Reilly.

While stuck in that dark place,
Reilly thought about his life and his fate,
About the jerk he had been,
To everyone he had seen,
So he promised to be good, did Reilly.

Suddenly, a stick falling into the hole,
Presented a way to escape from it all,
Freed from that space,
Reilly forgot his promise, though great.
And returned to his bad ways, did Reilly.

One day when Reilly was alone,
He forgot to cover up his dank home,
It was an incredibly hot day,
The sun shone brightly away,
Drying him up, that slug, old Reilly,

The moral of my story is this,
Treat everyone you meet with a wish,
That their life is just fine,
Untroubled by lying and slime,
Don’t end up like silly old Reilly.

One two buckle my shoe

!

One two buckle my shoe,

Three four knock at the door,

Five six pickup sticks,

Seven eight open the gate,

Nine ten start again,

Nah, that would be silly,

I would much rather go look for slugs to kill.

(It’s funny old world, isn’t it?)

That’s Joe

Slug

That’s Joe

There once was a slug called Joe

Who wished he were fast, not slow

Until one day, while alone

He saw a snail struggling, carrying its home

Now he slimes about happy: That’s Joe

Oh, To Have Legs…

Slug

Oh to have legs like insects and things,

To walk on all fours is something I dream,

Or even just two, like HU-MAN THEINGS.

Would make me so happy, would realise my dreams

*

I dream of the day, I grow legs and see,

What it feels like to walk, not slime so lowly,

You see, I am a poor slug with no legs at all,

A garbled old thing, just slime and slow drawl.

*

Now don’t get me wrong it’s not all bad, I confess,

There are some perks living in a damp mess,

But I cannot help wonder about legs, I admit,

Oh lord give me legs, be it two, four or six.

Joy

Joy is there in every mind

Joy is everywhere you find

Joy is there in every stage

Happiness, fury, kindness & rage

*
Without Joy the world is colorless

Without Joy the mind is dream less

When Joy comes in the world, it shines

With rainbow-tinted colors of light.

*

You can feel Joy by sharing

You can feel Joy by giving

You can feel Joy by thinking wise

And doing things that are always nice.

*

So why don’t we make Joy grow

By sharing, giving & loving

So why should we not make every face

Lightened with Joy glowing.

Fear

Fear is when you run away,
Fear is when you’re scared to love someone,
Fear is when the sky turns grey,
Fear is when you lose your loved ones,
Fear is a feeling of danger,
Fear is when you aren’t brave,
Fear is the feeling of anger,
Fear is when you can’t behave,
Fear is when your shy,
Fear is like not having devotion,
Fear is when you’re afraid of saying bye,
Fear is like a dark blue ocean,
Fear is like ending you’re career,
Fear is like being lonely,
Fear is like not being able to reappear,
Fear is like feeling ghostly,
Fear is like an ashtray,
Fear is like a dark dungeon.

There was an old man from Peru

There was an old man from Peru

Who dreamed he was eating his shoe.

He awoke in a fright

In the middle of the night

And found it was perfectly true.

I once had a car, so fine

I once had a car, so fine,

I washed it all of the time,

From morning to night,

Until I caught fright,

When it crumbled to rust, so fine.

The Peace Poem by John Denver

There’s a name for war and killing

there’s a name for giving in

when you know another answer

for me the name is sin

but there’s still time to turn around

and make all hatred cease

and give another name to living

and we could call it peace

 *

And peace would be the road we walk

each step along the way

and peace would be the way we work

and peace the way we play

 *

And in all we see that’s different

and in all the things we know

peace would be the way we look

and peace the way we grow

 *

There’s a name for separation

there’s a name for first and last

when it’s all for us or nothing

for me the name is past

but there’s still time to turn around

and make all hatred cease

and give a name to all the future

and we could call it peace

 *

And if peace is what we pray for

and peace is what we give

then peace will be the way we are

and peace the way we live

 *

Yes there still is the time to turn around

and make all hatred cease

and give another name to living

and we can call it peace
