MIAFRA

Miafra, the evil.

“It was incredibly easy for Miafra to influence those less gifted than himself. Just his appearance would cause an awed hush  anywhere he appeared. A tall, dark-skinned man, with bald head that held the blackest of eyes, so black they seemed more akin to holes than something to see with, standing erect and proud in a long, dark coloured cloak that sported hood that denied any curious person the chance of seeing his facially expression always demanded respect. Whenever Miafra spoke, he promised those listening to him a world where everyone would be  equal, a world where everyone’s powers would be equal – a world of eternal summer, he promised them Summerland. Miafra’s words brought out what had lain hidden,  asleep in the populace of Onisha for over five hundred years – their greed.

Black and Blue

Black and blue, so sore, I say,

Castleknock Henry, I saw today,

He did not like it, me visiting him,

Whopped my arse and made it sting.

I tried to calm him, make us friends,

It enraged him more, not make amends,

He spat and scratched and punched me hard,

I retreated fast fighting a rear guard

Nice Cat?

Nice cat,

Good cat,

Kind cat,

You think.

Bad cat,

Dire cat,

Grim cat,

I think.

What to do,

With this cat,

Treat him nice,

Or punish him,

Kill the cat,

Treat the cat,

Or let him be,

Ignoring him.

Castleknock Henry

There once was a cat called Henry

There once was a cat called Henry,

A Castleknock cat, not very friendly,

He thought he was smart,

Going out in the dark,

Until he fell down in a hole, did Henry.

While stuck in that dark place,

Henry thought about his life, his fate,

About the jerk he had been,

To all he had seen,

So he promised to be good, did Henry.

Suddenly, a stick falling into that hole,

Presented a way to escape from it all,

Once freed from that space,

Henry forgot his promise, though great.

And returned to his bad ways, nasty Henry.

One day when Henry was at home,

He fell asleep in the window, alone,

It was an incredibly hot day,

The sun shone brightly away,

And burnt him to a crisp, killing Henry.

The moral of my story is this,

Treat everyone you meet with a wish,

That them all fine,

Lest you reach the end of the line,

In a window, like Castleknock Henry.

Last Night

I heard a sound by my bedside last night

I heard a lone sound, how I got such a fright

Something passed by me, deep in the night

I heard a faint sound; did it want my poor life?

I made no sound; I was still, in such fright

As I lay in bed, in the deep of the night

I could hear something close by me, how I longed for the light

What was this dark thing, evading my sight?

A dark, black mass, a shadowy sight

Began to rise, slowly, in front of my eyes

As I lay in bed on my left-hand side

This dark, evil thing slowly rose into sight

I could not move a muscle; I was frozen in fright

As the dark, frightful vision continued, in height

Till it’s evil eyes were almost in sight

Only then did I close mine, despite the dark night

I knew it was wicked, the devil personified

He wanted my sight, the light of my life

If I kept my eyes closed, shut tight as the night

I might just be spared from the Grim Reaper’s cold scythe

Finally, eventually, I opened my eyes

Had he gone, departed – left, from my bedside?

But no! He was there (though lower again)

Starting, beginning, rising yet one more time

How could I be free from this terrible beast?

That wanted my soul, my heart and my peace

Perhaps, if this time my eyes remained firmly closed

It might well just give up and go away home

So as my eyes closed, again, in such fright

I prayed and I hoped that I’d last out the night

I could feel its Dark Presence, so close by my brow

But kept my eyes shut, it wouldn’t bother me now

The darkness and danger passed from me that night

Vanishing, returning, away from my sight

I rolled over, so comfy, lulled back into nod

Till the next time it happens, it’s just me and my God.

Two sheets to the wind

Some people might say that I am so cracked
‘Two sheets to the wind’ and therefore quite lacked
But I say it’s them who are lacking of sorts
Afraid to speak up, to convey their true thoughts

To speak and to mean just what we do say
Is an honesty lacking in the world of today
If more would join in with this wonderful cause
People would like and give it applause

But people are fickle, nice to the face
But when we are gone they fall down in disgrace
If more were to be seen as ‘two sheets to the wind’
Perhaps more would be happier and less would have sinned.
(It’s just a thought).
