Haroldstown Dolmen

haroldstown dolmen

Haroldstown Dolmen

Harolodstown Dolmen sits quite in a field,

Alone and uncared for adrift from the real,

From the life we consider so important, though rushed,

Yet it will be there when we’re gone, when we’re hushed.

Older than pyramids and older than sea,

Haroldstown Dolmen contained and yet free,

It’s neighbous are cattle, some sheep and a goat,

Blissfully unaware of its significant note.

 *

It’s a place of sanctitude, a place to set free,

Your mind and your spirit, your heart and your chi,

To rest for a while away from the rush,

Of everyday life and of everyday fuss.

*

Some tourists do seek it out now and then,

Taking a photo or two then moving on again,

Perhaps one day it will be known far and near,

As the dolmen of sanctitude; a place so rare.

Let’s go Fly a Kite

With tuppence for paper and string, Horace had his own set of wings,

With his feet on the ground he was a bird in flight,

With his fist holding tight to the string of his kite.

Oh, oh, oh, Let’s go fly a kite,

Up to the highest heights!

Let’s go fly a kite and send it soaring,

Up through the atmosphere,

Up where the air is clear,

Oh, let’s go fly a kite.

*

When he sent it flying up there,

All at once he was lighter than air,

He danced on the breeze over houses and trees,

With his fist holding tight to the string of his kite.

Oh, oh, oh, Let’s go fly a kite,

Up to the highest heights!

Let’s go fly a kite and send it soaring,

Up through the atmosphere,

Up where the air is clear,

Oh, let’s go fly a kite.

I love to have a beer with Duncan

I love to have a beer with Duncan

Lyrics by Slim Dusty

I love to have a beer with Duncan
I love to have a beer with Dunc.
We drink in moderation
And we never ever ever get rollin’ drunk
We drink at the Town and Country
Where the atmosphere is great
I love to have a beer with Duncan
‘Cause Duncan’s me mate, yeah

I love to have a beer with Colin
I love to have a beer with Col.
We drink in moderation
And it doesn’t really matter if he brings his doll
We drink at the Town and Country
Where the atmosphere is great
I love to have a beer with Colin
‘Cause Colin’s me mate, mm-mm-mm

I love to have a beer with Kevin
Oh I love to have a beer with Kev.
We drink in moderation
And he drives me home in his big old Chev.
We drink at the Town and Country
Where the atmosphere is great
I love to have a beer with Kevin
‘Cause Kevin’s me mate

I love to have a beer with Patrick
I love to have a beer with Pat
We drink in moderation
And it wouldn’t really matter if the beer was flat
We drink at the Town and Country
Where the atmosphere is great
I love to have a beer with Patrick
‘Cause Patrick’s me mate – Change key

I love to have a beer with Robert
I love to have a beer with Bob
We drink in moderation
Just one more and back on the job
We drink at the Town and Country
Where the atmosphere is great
I love to have a beer with Robert
‘Cause Robert’s me mate

I love to have a beer with Duncan
Oh I love to have a beer with Dunc.
We drink in moderation
And we never ever ever get rollin’ drunk
We drink at the Town and Country
Where the atmosphere is great
I love to have a beer with Duncan
‘Cause Duncan’s me mate.

Passing Through

Passing Through

Normal people,
Passing by,
Normal persons,
I wonder why,
They never question,
Never see,
Cannot ponder,
You or me.

*

Their world is full,
Of senseless pain,
Pointless work,
That has no aim,
There is no rhyme,
Or reason why,
All they do is run,
Not try.

*

They need to stop,
To look around,
To take the time,
And feel the ground,
To see the sky above,
So blue,
To feel God’s love,
For them, so true.

I am an…

I am black, I am blind,

I am a slave, who has no free will,

I work for the good of all, not for the sake of the individual,

I have no dreams, I have no plans, I receive no rewards,

I am conditioned to serve, I do so without complaint,

And I will continue until the day I die,

I am – an ant.

Searching…

Searching…

What is peace – does anyone really know?

I’ve searched so hard, but it evades me so!

Will I ever know its sweet embrace,

Its soothing touch, its saving grace?

Or will I just fumble from day to day,

‘Till I can dream no more and fade away?

Originally Intended for publication on April 1st.

I just I heard that the earth is flat,

That all these years it’s been like a mat,

That you hardly see or notice there,

Until you are told the earth is square.

If it is square then I am sure,

What I’ve been told is oh so flawed.

But perhaps it’s all a dream of sorts,

And when I awake all will be as before.

And if it’s not then I must learn,

Not to walk too far, lest I fall off the edge.

FREE CHEESE for the People

CHEESE

I am your leader, he said, snarling at us,

The prime minister of Ireland, now what’s all the fuss,

I gave you some cheese – and a whole lot at that,

You should be grateful, you scurrilous brats!
*
We don’t want your cheese, we answered – and quick,

We want money in our pockets, not cheap little tricks,

Give your cheese to the bankers, and try some yourself,

Perhaps it will choke you; then we can govern ourselves.

(You know it makes sense,
And if it doesn’t make sense,
It’s a load of nonsense).

**************

Cheese, cheese, good for your heart,

The more you eat, the longer you’ll last,

The longer you last, the more taxes you’ll pay,

Eat cheese every day.

Alice in Wonderland with the complaining flamingo SONG

alice in wonderland with the flamingo

‘Hold still,’ Alice said to the bird,

‘Hold still,’ she insisted, ‘I must be heard!

You must strike the ball, though it hurts you so,

Hold still dear bird, then I’ll let you go’.

*

‘Quark, quark!’ said bird in reply to Alice,

‘QUARK, QUARK!’ it professed with great menace.

‘I will peck you good if you do not let me go.

QUARK’, it screeched. ‘You have been warned, you know!’

*

‘Oh PLEASE give me time to play the game,

I’ll try to be gentle’, Alice so reframed.

‘And if you do happen to be injured, some,

I will tend your injuries, each and every one’.

*

‘If I agree to let you use me as a bat,’

Said the bird to Alice, and that’s a fact,

‘You must promise to pay me one bright new shilling,

Only then can you hope to ever win.’

 *

‘I will, I will!’ Alice cried out with joy,

‘I will pay you one shilling, and that’s no lie,’

With that she lifted the bird so high,

Struck the ball hard and the poor bird died.

I’m 50; it came so fast

Bolf.

I’m 50; it came so fast,

The big five-0, I am aghast.

Where are the years? They flew so fast,

As close to the grave I pass.

If I could have that time again,

Oh, what changes I would make.
